Exemptions for Overtime Payment Are Narrowing

Proposed Regulations published today by the United States Department of Labor promise significant changes to our country’s wage structure that may profoundly impact the seemingly intractable problem of growing wage disparity in the U.S. These changes will improve the lives of hard-working managers and administrative personnel, among others, who had previously been ineligible for overtime pay. Predictably, some will say that this is another example of an overly intrusive government making it more expensive and difficult to operate a business. However, employers and employees alike should celebrate this development because, invariably, it will serve to reward the people we need the most in our businesses:
